TL;DR: You may use the Software for personal, student, and educator purposes for free. Any use that generates money (client work, monetized content, internal business use, studio pipelines, etc.) requires a commercial license.

1) Definitions

Software refers to the ZenTools scripts/binaries, the PjotsZen Hub, bundled presets, example content, documentation, and any updates.

Personal / Non-Commercial Use means use by an individual for learning, hobby, schoolwork, or portfolio, without compensation or providing products/services to others.

Student / Educator means learners and teaching staff using the Software for coursework or instruction.

Commercial Use means any use that contributes to or is intended to generate revenue, including client work, paid content, studio/agency pipelines, or internal business operations.

Studio means any company, school, organization, or team (including freelancers collaborating on paid work).

2) License grant

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software.

  • Free License: for Personal, Student, and Educator use.
  • Commercial License: required for any Commercial Use; licensed per-seat unless stated otherwise at purchase.

All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

3) Free (Personal / Students / Educators)Free Forever
  • Install on your own devices.
  • Create non-commercial work, practice pieces, school assignments, and teaching materials.
  • Share personal work online (attribution to Pjot’s ZenTools appreciated).
4) Commercial use & licensing
  • License required: You must obtain a valid commercial license before any Commercial Use.
  • Seats: One license equals one natural person/seat unless specified otherwise.
  • Studios: Studios must purchase enough seats for simultaneous users.
  • Verification: The Hub may verify entitlements (e.g., email confirmation, online checks). Attempting to bypass is prohibited.
  • No resale or sublicensing: You may not rent, sell, lend, or sublicense the Software or your license.

Examples of Commercial Use: paid client projects, monetized videos/tutorials/assets, work performed for an employer, internal studio tools/pipelines.

5) Prohibited uses
  • Reverse engineering or modifying the Software beyond what is permitted by applicable law.
  • Removing or altering copyright, license, or attribution notices.
  • Redistributing, mirroring, or making the Software publicly downloadable (including presets or paid assets).
  • Building competing products by copying unique features, presets, or assets.
  • Circumventing or attempting to circumvent license/entitlement checks.
6) Updates & changes

We may update the Software at any time. Some updates may be required for security or compatibility. Features may change, and components may be discontinued with reasonable notice.

7) Accounts & privacy
  • Certain features require account registration and email verification. Without verification, commercial entitlements may remain inactive.
  • Personal data is handled according to our Privacy Policy.
  • You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials.
8) Payments & refunds
  • Prices and terms are shown at checkout.
  • Unless required by law or stated otherwise at purchase, payments are non-refundable once license entitlements are delivered.
  • You are responsible for any applicable taxes.
9) Intellectual property

We retain all intellectual-property rights in the Software. This agreement does not transfer ownership of any IP to you. You own the content you create with the Software.

10) Warranty disclaimer

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

11) Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR BUSINESS, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY UNDER THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE COMMERCIAL LICENSE IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM (OR €0 FOR FREE USERS).

12) Term & termination

This license continues until terminated. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these Terms (e.g., unauthorized commercial use, redistribution). Upon termination, you must stop using and uninstall the Software; sections that by nature should survive will remain in effect.

13) Governing law & venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of Austria. Exclusive jurisdiction and venue lie in the courts of Vienna, Austria, unless mandatory consumer law provides otherwise.
